The numbers don’t lie: while EU’s MiCA framework went live last year, and US senators passed the GENIUS Act for stablecoins, Her Majesty’s Treasury still can’t commit to launching their “crypto roadmap” before 2026 at earliest. That’s not regulation—that’s regulatory theater.
Stablecoin Stumbles
Britain’s confused approach to stablecoins perfectly illustrates the problem. Unlike the US (which treats them as payment tools) or the EU (with clear issuance rules), UK regulators lump them together with speculative crypto assets. The Bank of England initially demanded 100% central bank backing—a commercial non-starter that smelled more like protectionism than prudence.
Consequences of Delay
Every month without clear rules:

- Increases reliance on outdated financial infrastructure
